Cotton and Steel Triangle Hexies Quilt

I spent a good part of the day yesterday photographing quilts!  It’s our dreary part of the year where we are lucky to see the sun once a week and yesterday it made it’s appearance intermittently.  So I took advantage and photographed some quilts.  My favorite lens for photographing quilts is the 50mm which helps even on the more dreary days.

This modern Cotton and Steel Triangle Hexies quilt was one of the quilts to photograph 🙂   I actually started this quilt 6 months ago and then it sat as a quilt top for 4 months until I got around to finishing it.   And now that I’ve photographed it I can finally wash it and put into rotation or gift it.

Triangle Hexies Quilt pattern is available in my shop.

Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltI pretty much adore anything Cotton and Steel puts out and their black and white lines are no exception.   I debated between all black and white or adding the color.  I went with the color for a little added contrast.  Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltThis quilt pattern goes together pretty quickly and does not have any Y seams.  It’s a fun one to make.  This is the second Triangle Hexies I’ve made.  I blogged the other one here.Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltI realized this summer that I have a large outdoor surface to spray baste on!   I took my quilts to the back deck this fall for basting.   The wind and you know, blowing leaves add a little extra challenge but no icky fumes in the house.  🙂  I exclusively spray baste all of my quilts and use this spray baste.Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltI free motion quilted this Triangle Hexies quilt!  I have only free motioned a handful of times but enjoy it each time I do.   I did a stipple pattern on this one.

It’s far from perfect but it’s a very forgiving pattern to free motion.  The overall effect looks decent even if you feel like your stitches are terrible.  Crazy Mom Quilts has a really good blog post about free motion quilting.   I never knew where to start and where to go but her post really helped with that.

You will need a free motion foot for your machine.  Most machines come with this foot.Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltI backed this one with my favorite Cotton and Steel black and white print.. those adorable bears!  So cute!Cotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltCotton and Steel Trianlge Hexies QuiltMaterials used:
