Introducing the Lucky Links Quilt: A Fresh Twist on the Classic Irish Chain

Today I’m sharing the newest Quilty Love quilt pattern! Lucky Links is a chain block combined with fun fat eighth friendly quilt blocks. Traditional meets modern in this take on the classic Irish Chain quilt. Lucky Links is a block based quilt pattern that sews together nicely with strip piecing shortcuts.

The Lucky Links quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop.

Lucky Links Quilt pattern

Lucky Links has been in the works for forever! I sketched this one out many years ago and kept revisiting it. Other patterns always ended up coming out first but it was time to get this one onto fabric!

So it feels super familiar to me since I’ve been playing around with it on my computer for so many years.

Fat eighth and fat quarter friendly

The Lucky Links quilt pattern is a block based quilt. It’s made up of a chain block and then what I’m calling a print block. The print block is fat eighth and fat quarter friendly. You could also cut the pieces for it from your scrap stash.

The chain block uses yardage and strip piecing shortcuts for a fast and easy assembly. You definitely want to take your time cutting and piecing the strip sets for the chain block. A consistent and accurate seam allowance will really help with assembly.

Five quilt sizes included

From snuggly baby quilts to full-size bed quilts, Lucky Links comes with five size options in one convenient pattern. No need to do your own math or guess fabric requirements—everything is clearly laid out so you can dive right in.

Included Sizes:

  • Baby – 40″ x 50″
  • Small Throw – 50″ x 60″
  • Large Throw – 60″ x 70″ (shown here)
  • Small bed – 80″ x 90″ – This fits a full size bed
  • Large bed – 100″ x 100″ – This fits a queen or king size bed. You can always add borders to make it a little bigger or to the perfect size for your bed.

My fabric stash version of Lucky Links

I sewed up this version of Lucky Links with a bundle I pulled from my fabric stash. Use that flat photo of the fabric up above as a reference if you would like to make one in similar colors. Most of these fabrics are Ruby Star Society fabrics.

The background and the chain are both Ruby Star Society Starry fabrics from the more recent release.

Long arm quilting

I sent this Lucky Links quilt off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We went with this Cartwheels pantograph.

The backing fabric is a subtle print from an older Ruby Star Society fabric line called Koi Pond.
