Lucky Links Quilt Pattern – A modern Irish Chain in Fableism Sun Stripes and Checkmate

Lucky Links Quilt in Sun Stripes + Checkmate

I’m excited to share another version of my Lucky Links quilt pattern – this one stitched up in the new Sun Stripes and Checkmate collections by Fableism.

A Modern Spin on the Irish Chain

Lucky Links takes inspiration from the timeless Irish Chain quilt but adds a modern twist. Instead of sticking with the traditional layout, I paired the chain block with a second, easy-to-piece block that makes assembly both fun and beginner-friendly. The chain sections come together quickly thanks to some simple strip piecing, so you’ll spend less time cutting and more time sewing.

This pattern has been on my drawing board for quite a while, so it’s exciting to finally see it come to life in fabric. It’s now available in the Quilty Love shop!

Sewn in Sun Stripes and Checkmate by Fableism.

This quilt top came together in the gorgeous Sun Stripes and Checkmate fabric lines. These are two separate fabric lines that beg to be sewn together. As you know, I’m a huge fan of wovens because they make the softest, drapiest quilts.

For this sample, the chain blocks were pieced using Sprout Wovens in Midnight, and I paired it with a creamy Everyday Chambray background.

Quilt Sizes Included

The Lucky Links pattern is written with multiple size options so you can make the perfect quilt for any occasion:

  • Baby – 40″ x 50″
  • Small Throw – 50″ x 60″
  • Large Throw – 60″ x 70″
  • Small Bed (Full) – 80″ x 90″
  • Large Bed (Queen/King) – 100″ x 100″ (add borders for an oversized king if you prefer)

Orange Peel Long Arm Quilting

I sent this wovens Lucky Links quilt off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We went with a traditional orange peel pantograph. I was on an orange peel kick :). First I hand quilted this design, then machine quilted this design and then had a quilt long armed in this design.

Woven Backing

The backing of this Irish Chain quilt is another woven by Fableism. Because all of the fabrics are wovens this quilt is super soft and drapey. The backing is a thin stripe from the Monarch Grove line. They bring this print back in subtle color changes from time to time.

Mix + Match Friendly

One of my favorite things about Lucky Links is that it’s a true mix-and-match quilt pattern. Once the pieces are cut from your fat eighths, you can shuffle and combine them into unique blocks, which keeps the sewing process fun and gives every quilt a one-of-a-kind look.
