A Stash Buster Quilt You’ll Want to Make Again and Again
If your fabric stash is getting out of hand (It doesn’t take long for me to feel that way!), Jelly Stripes is the perfect way to start sewing through it. This pattern is super versatile — use fat quarters, layer cake squares, jelly roll strips, or fat eighths to create your quilt top. The simple strip-pieced design makes it easy to mix and match prints, colors, and collections.
Lots of quilt sizes
Jelly Stripes includes a baby size, small throw, medium throw, large throw and a large bed size in the instructions. This solids version is the medium throw size.
Solids version
I’m really loving this one in solids! This version is one of the early test versions so I used a Then Came June palette picks bundle with some modifications. I didn’t have all of the fabrics in the bundle so I added a few extra colors. For this version I used a combination of WOF strips and fat quarters – all from my stash.
Bed sheet backing
I’m kind of on a sheets for backings kick right now. I picked up this polka dot set on clearance from TJ Maxx and wish I had grabbed more!
I really like using sheets as a backing so long as they are 100 percent cotton and have a more quilting cotton feel. They tend to wash up really nice and soft. And if you think about it, sheets are meant for lots of washings, which in my opinion, makes them good candidates for quilt backings.
Multi Stitch Zig Zag Quilting
I’m also on a multi stitch zig zag quilting kick! I tend to forget about this stitch for a while and then get obsessed all over again when I use it. It’s just like the wavy stitch where you quilt straight lines and the stitch on the machine does the work. This stitch gives the quilt such a nice overall texture. I love it!

Stitch length – 2.5
Width – 7.0
Line Spacing – 3/4 inch
Scrappy or Color Block – You Choose!
You can keep things cohesive with a color-block layout or make it completely scrappy. Both versions look modern, fresh, and fun.
Each version has its own charm – the color-block layout gives you that clean, graphic look, while the scrappy option shows off all your favorite fabrics. Either way, it’s a great opportunity to play with color and fabric placement.
Beginner Friendly and Quick to Sew
