Ruby Star Society Starry Star Pop Quilt

The Star Pop quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop today! I’m excited to share this fun and modern sawtooth star quilt pattern.

This stash friendly star quilt is fat quarter friendly, scrappy friendly or even layer cake friendly. This version of Star Pop is sewn up using the brand new upcoming Starry fabrics by Ruby Star Society.

Star Pop comes in multiple size options from baby size all the way up to bed sizes. I would call this modern star quilt pattern an ambitious beginner quilt.

Star Pop is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop. Starry Star Pop quilt kits are in the shop here.

Ruby Star Society Starry Star Pop Quilt

The brand new Ruby Star Society Starry fabrics are the star of this Star Pop quilt! This fun and modern star quilt was designed specifically with this fabric line in mind. Starry hits shops in November but when I saw it first introduced a few months ago I was smitten.

Star Pop was the motivating factor behind this star quilt pattern. I knew I wanted to sew it up in Starry fabrics.

This quilt uses a Starry fat quarter bundle but I eliminated a few colors and then doubled up on a few more. The colors in this fabric line are so happy. They are the perfect modern shades.

The Starry fabric line has a few neutrals to choose from. I used the rainbow stars in the fabric line to make the stars in this quilt. I love how they still have a subtle print but really pop against those bright colors.

Star Pop Quilt Pattern

I’m so excited to introduce this fun and modern star quilt today! I love stars and there are quite a few star options in the Quilty Love pattern library. But, it’s been a while since I’ve done a star quilt. Sawtooth stars are so classic in quilting so it’s always fun to come up with a new design using them.

Starry is a block based quilt pattern. Each block is a quarter of the star and then stars start to emerge as you put your blocks together.

I kept the piecing on this one simple. I would call this one a confident beginner for sure. The biggest challenge that a newer quilter will have is keeping those star points. But If you were to inspect my star quilts, you will see some missing points. It happens to a lot of us 😉

Stash friendly star quilt pattern

Star Pop is stash friendly! I’m not calling this one a stash buster only because it does require yardage for the stars. But it’s fat quarter friendly, scrappy friendly or layer cake friendly. You can also use 1/4 yard cuts or fat eighths but need all 9 inches of that quarter yard or F8 so use those at your own risk. Cutting diagrams are included for all of those fabric options.

Star Pop is scrappy friendly since each block uses less than 10 inches of fabric. I made a scrappy baby sized Star Pop that will be on the blog soon.

Tons of quilt sizes included – Baby to bed quilt size

As always, I’ve included tons of size options in the Star Pop quilt pattern. The pattern includes instructions for each of these quilt sizes:

  • Baby size
  • Small throw size
  • Large throw size
  • Twin size bed quilt
  • Full size bed quilt
  • Queen size bed quilt
  • King size bed quilt

The Starry Star Pop quilt featured in this blog post is the large throw size. It’s a nice and generously sized throw quilt.

Modern Star Quilt pattern

Star quilt patterns are some of my favorites to make and there are a few in the Quilty Love pattern library already. Stars are such a classic quilting design and I love incorporating them into my quilt patterns.

Star pop uses the classic sawtooth star in a fun and modern way. I wanted the stars to really stand out in this quilt and be the “star” of the quilt…haha. Wow, that’s cheesy. The goal was lots of stars on the quilt with the prints acting as the background. I like how the stars are going off the edges of the quilt. There is no stop or start to the stars, they just keep going.

Long Arm quilting by Modern Textiles

Modern Textiles quilted up this Starry Star Pop quilt for me. In fact, Katie of Modern Textiles quilted most of my Star Pop quilt samples. I highly recommend her.

This quilting pantograph is called Abacus.
