Today I’m sharing another Classic Hearts quilt. This time it’s in Diamond Textile Wovens. I sewed this one up this past year so it’s time to share it here on the blog. Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Classic Hearts was last years annual heart quilt pattern. It’s a sweet block based heart quilt pattern that you can sew up using fat eighths or fat quarters.

Classic Hearts quilt pattern
Classic Hearts is a pretty simple ambitious beginner quilt pattern. It’s a cute block based quilt that you can sew up for Valentine’s Day or really any time of the year that you want to spread a little joy.
Each year I release a new heart themed quilt pattern that is stash friendly. You can sew up a Classic Hearts quilt using fat eighths, fat quarters, 1/4 yards or half yards.
Lots of quilt sizes included:
- Baby size quilt – 40″ x 55″
- Small throw size quilt – 50″x65″
- Large throw size quilt – 60″ x 75″
- Twin size bed quilt – 70″ x 90″
- Queen size bed quilt – 90″ x 100″
Diamond Textiles Wovens
I picked up this fat quarter bundle of these Diamond Textile Wovens from Fabric Bubb. They are delicious! Can I call fabric delicious?! I’m such a sucker for texture and these do not disappoint. Some of them have a chunky contrasting design woven into them and I can’t get enough of it.
I used all of the cream fat quarters in this bundle for the hearts.
Quilting with wovens
I’m a big fan of sewing with wovens because I absolutely love the added texture they bring to a quilt. Plus they make for really soft and drapey quilts. But I do these things when sewing with wovens:
- Prewash the fabric – This is the only time I prewash fabric. Only for these looser weave wovens because they shrink quite a bit more than a regular quilting cotton. Keep in mind they shrink ALOT! So account for that in any pattern you use them in.
- Use a smaller stitch length – I use a stitch length of about 1.8 when sewing wovens. These have a little looser weave making them a little more prone to fraying so a tight stitch length will help keep them secure for the long run.
- Press seams to the side – I’m becoming more and more of a side presser but pressing to the side results in a stronger seam so no bursting seams down the road.
I assumed I would randomly place the blocks in the final layout but I wasn’t loving it. So instead I tried in color order on the right and liked that much better!
Wavy Stitch machine quilting
I quilted this one up myself using the wavy stitch on my Janome MC6700p. I have a youtube tutorial here.
The backing is an Arcade Plaid by Fableism. I stuck with a woven for the backing so it’s all the same substrate. The quilt label is by Sarah Hearts.
