Classic Hearts Quilt Pattern

I’m super excited to share the brand new Quilty Love heart quilt pattern called Classic Hearts! This is the 6th annual heart quilt pattern. I started this tradition back when our youngest was just born and I never would have guessed it would continue on for so long! But I really enjoy starting each year off with these happy and joyful heart quilts.

Classic Hearts is in the Quilty Love pattern shop. Check out all of the Quilty Love heart quilts here.

Annual Quilty Love heart quilt pattern

The annual heart quilt really has become a fun tradition and one that I don’t plan to end any time soon. I love having a specific theme to plan a quilt around each year. These heart quilts are always such happy quilts and it’s a great way to start off each year.

This year the heart quilt is called Classic Hearts. It’s a fun and simple block based heart quilt. I think a beginner quilter could tackle this one. I started designing Classic Hearts in November and started with a different design. At least in my head. So I started sketching and trying to make it work with fat quarters and it evolved into what you see here. I didn’t realize until I started making the first sample that it’s a similar design to Classic Stars that I worked on earlier in the year. So now we have Classic Stars and Classic Hearts.

For this first sample, I pulled a bunch of pink solids from my stash. I really try to make these heart quilts stash friendly and sometimes even scrappy friendly. This one needs at least a fat eighth size piece of fabric for each block.

I don’t have all of the exact colors used in this quilt but here is my best guess color matching: Bella Solids: Strawberry, Pink, Princess, Amelia Pink, 30s Pink, Raspberry, Azalea, Magenta, Peony RK: Manchester-Punch, A pink metallic linen – I can’t find exactly what it is. I used about a half yard of each.

5 quilt sizes included

The Classic Hearts quilt pattern includes 5 quilt sizes:

  • Baby size quilt
  • Small throw quilt
  • Large throw quilt (shown here)
  • Twin bed size quilt
  • Queen bed size quilt

Pre-cut friendly heart quilt

This year the heart quilt is stash friendly. You will need at least a fat eighth size piece of fabric for each block. You can use any of the following:

  • Fat quarters
  • Fat eighths
  • 1/4 yard cuts
  • Half yard cuts

For the hearts you can choose the same yardage as the background or use the pre-cuts above for a scrappier mix and match look.

Bonus matching pillow cover

I used my cut off corners from this Classic Hearts quilt to make this cute little pillow cover. The large throw size quilt had enough half square triangles to make an 18″ square panel. I turned it into a pillow cover.

Long Arm Quilting

I sent this Classic Hearts quilt off to Modern Textiles for some really cute long arm quilting. This baptist heart fan clams pantograph is one of my favorites for cute quilts like this.

This heart quilt is backed using a really subtle neutral color. I was basically just trying to use something I already had on hand. I do love a neutral backing though 🙂
