Cozy Season Happy Stripes Quilt

Today I’m sharing the Cozy Season Happy Stripes quilt. Happy Stripes is the brand new stash buster quilt pattern in the shop and Cozy Season is my brand new curated bundle with Robert Kaufman.

I couldn’t resist sewing up a Happy Stripes quilt sample using the new Cozy Season bundle. Since Cozy Season is hitting quilt shops right now it was the perfect timing to try it out in Happy Stripes. And since Happy Stripes is a quick and easy quilt pattern it didn’t take long to whip one up before the pattern release.

I have to say this Cozy Season Happy Stripes quilt ended up being one of my favorite samples. Cozy Season includes 15 fat quarters so it was perfect for the medium throw size Happy Stripes quilt.

The Happy Stripes quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love Pattern shop. Cozy Season is also in quilt shops. My first batch sold out but I have more Cozy Season bundles on order. You can check here to see if they are in stock.

Cozy Season Happy Stripes Quilt

This Cozy Season Happy Stripes quilt was such a fun quilt to sew up. I really enjoy quilting with flannel even if it is a little more finicky. That’s why having the opportunity to curate a flannel bundle for Robert Kaufman was so cool. Cozy Season is shipping to quilt shops right now.

Since Cozy Season is just coming out it was the perfect timing to sew up a Happy Stripes quilting using one of the bundles. The medium throw size Happy Stripes needs 14 fat quarters so I left out the darkest pink fat quarter. You could always use all 15 fat quarters. The end result of leaving out that dark pink is a softer looking quilt.

Quick and Easy Stash Buster Quilt pattern

The Happy Stripes quilt pattern is part of the Quilty Love Stash Buster quilt pattern series. It has been so much fun designing and writing quilt patterns specifically with quilters fabric stashes in mind.

Most of these stash buster quilt patterns are written around precuts like fat quarters. My goal is that you can pull a fat quarter bundle from your stash and start sewing. Or you can mix and match fat quarters from your stash and start sewing. Or you can grab your scrap stash and start sewing.

Up until now, all of the stash buster quilt patterns were background and accent free. Happy Stripes does have an accent fabric but you can use yardage or fat quarters as the accent fabric.

Pre-made bias binding by Moda Fabrics

I bought a couple of spools of pre-made bias binding by Moda Fabrics a little while back. I finally started using it this past week. I used some on this Cozy Season Happy Stripes quilt.

I don’t always love making bindings so I was kind of pumped when I saw Moda had these bindings available. They are bias bindings which I rarely use. Bias bindings are stronger than a cross grain binding so it’s not a bad idea to use bias bindings. They have a lot more stretch which is actually what I was worried about when it comes to using bias binding. I was afraid they would go on my quilt kind of wonky. In the end they went on just fine using a walking foot.

These pre-made bindings are made from the Bella Solids fabrics I believe so the quality of the fabric is good. I tested it out and it didn’t bleed at all. However, I will say the quality of the seams is not great. Some of the seams were pulling apart a bit. And these are a little wider than 2.5 inches. So you need to adjust for that if you are used to a perfect 2.5 inch binding.

Over all, I’ll keep using these bindings. I’m not sure if I’ll purchase more or not but they do save quite a bit of time when it comes to finishing your quilt.

Flannel quilt backing

This Cozy Season Happy Stripes is backed in flannel to keep it nice and cozy. I used one of my favorite flannel prints, this Framework Flannel by Robert Kaufman.

Cozy Season Happy Stripes Long Arm Quilting

This fun flannel number was sent off to Modern Textiles for quilting. Katie and I chose this fun pantograph called Rondelle.
