Scrappy Gems - The Ruby Star Society Starry Irish Chain quilt

Today I’m sharing this Ruby Star Society Starry Scrappy Gems quilt! Somehow I didn’t blog most of my Scrappy Gems quilt samples when the pattern came out last year.

Scrappy Gems is a take on the classic Irish Chain quilt. It’s one of the Quilty Love stash busters and works well with fat quarters from your stash.

This fun and colorful version uses Ruby Star Society Starry. I added some hand stitching details also.

Scrappy Gems quilt pattern

Scrappy Gems was published in 2023 as part of the Quilty Love stash buster series. This fast and fun quilt is a take on the classic Irish Chain quilt. It’s fat quarter friendly.

Scrappy Gems sews together pretty quickly with strip piecing and nested seams.

It includes lots of quilt sizes in the pattern:

Baby size – 48″ x 48″
Square throw size – 64″ x 64″ (shown here)
Large throw size – 64″ x 80″
Bed size – 80″ x 96″
Queen bed size – 96″ x 112″

Starry fabrics by Ruby Star Society

This scrappy Irish Chain quilt is sewn up using the original Starry fabric by Ruby Star Society. I’ve made quite a few quilts using this fabric now and I’m still not tired of it. It’s such a fun and happy line.

While the original Starry line is out of print, Ruby Star has brought it back with new colors.

Hybrid quilting

I tried another hybrid quilting design on this Scrappy Gems! Modern Textiles long arm quilted this fun arc design and then I added some black hand stitching throughout the chain section.
