Triangle Hexies Quilt – A fat quarter triangle quilt

Today I’m sharing this Triangle Hexies quilt that I sewed up over two years ago! Triangle Hexies is one of the early Quilty Love patterns. I have always enjoyed making this one because it’s actually fairly quick and easy to sew up. The quilt goes together using 60 degree triangles. This version is sewn up using the Evolve fabric line by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics.

You can find the Triangle Hexies quilt pattern in the shop here.

Triangle Hexies Quilt Pattern

Triangle Hexies came out quite early on in the Quilty Love pattern library! This quilt goes together using 60 degree triangles. The accent and the sashing get sewn to the triangles so assembly is triangles using traditional piecing (no Y seams).

I actually find this one to be pretty quick and easy to sew up. The challenging part of it is sewing triangles themselves. Once you get the hang of them though they are fairly easy to sew up.

I recommend a flat tipped 60 degree triangle ruler for Triangle Hexies. This one ruler is pretty much all you need in your stash for any future triangle or half hexie quilts.

The Triangle Hexies quilt pattern includes cutting instructions for four quilt sizes:

  • Baby size – 45″ x 45″
  • Throw size – 60″ x 70″ (shown here)
  • Twin bed size – 75″ x 94″
  • Queen bed size – 90″ x 110″

Evolve Fabrics by Art Gallery Fabrics

This sample of Triangles Hexies is sewn up in Evolve fabrics by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics. I paired it with a bold teal background. The background is one of Suzy’s solids with AGF. The color is Honeymoon.

And then the binding is one of the binding fabrics by Art Gallery Fabrics that went with the Evolve fabric line. Their binding fabrics are so cool! They are double sided so you can choose which print to use for the binding.

Long Arm Quilting

I sent this one off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We chose the paradoxical quilting pantograph by Long Arm League. I like this one on Triangle Hexies. I think the angles look good together.

I’ve held onto this quilt without sharing it for far too long because I’ve been working on editing the pattern. Triangle Hexies got a slight update with some strip piecing shortcuts. It’s slightly faster to sew together with the new strip piecing technique. I was hesitant about editing the pattern and finally in the end decided to go for it. I prefer sewing it together with the strip piecing myself even though it uses slightly more fabric that way.

This is one of my favorite quilts so the fact that I haven’t shared it yet is ridiculous. I really love the colors of this one – I’m glad to finally have it up on the blog!
