VandCo Ombre Happy Scallops quilt

Today I’m sharing this VandCo ombre Happy Scallops quilt. This one is a happy happy rainbow quilt. I really love working with ombre fabrics and it had been a while since I’ve sewn with it. So I was excited to cut into that ombre fabric again for this quick and easy strip pieced quilt.

I used my favorite of the VandCo ombre lines… Confetti Ombre.

VandCo Ombre Confetti fabric

If you have been following along for a while then you know I’m a big fan of the VandCo ombre fabrics for quilts. The happy colors are so much fun to sew with and I find that no matter how you use them, they always look magical. The ombre fade adds so much dimension to any quilt sewn with it.

I restocked my ombre stash a while back with a half yard bundle of the VandCo Ombre Confetti. I think it’s my favorite of all of the VandCo ombre fabric lines.

Ombre Happy Scallops quilt

Happy Scallops is one of the more recent Quilty Love patterns. It’s a fast and fun strip pieced stash buster. I wanted to try it out in Ombres. You don’t need to overthink ombres. Since I knew I wanted to do a color fade in rainbow order, I paired up my like colors.

Then I sewed up my strip sets using a mix of those like colors. It looks like I made a size between the large throw and twin size so I used 20 fat quarters. Sew up the strip sets and keep them all in color order.

And then arrange the blocks in color order. I always like a diagonal color fade. It can take some trial and error to get it all arranged nicely. But again… you don’t need to overthink ombre too much! It will look cool no matter what.

Since I didn’t want to eliminate any of the ombre colors, this quilt ended up nice and big and is a twin bed size.

Long Arm Quilting

I sent this VandCo Ombre Confetti quilt off to Modern Textiles for quilting. We chose this cute scallop pantograph called Scallop Fans.

Scrappy ombre binding

I kind of struggle to find a good binding for my ombre quilts. In this case, I used all of the leftover ombre fabrics and made a scrappy binding. I thought it was a fun way to finish this colorful quilt.
