Fat Quarter Dash Quilt – Stash buster pattern

Today I’m sharing one of the many Fat Quarter Dash quilts! Fat Quarter Dash is the second in the Quilty Love Stash Buster Series. Fat Quarter Dash is not only a stash buster quilt pattern but a super beginner friendly quilt pattern.

All of the stash busters in the stash buster quilt pattern series don’t require background fabric. These quilt patterns are written primarily around fat quarters. The goal is that you can pull some fat quarters from your stash and start sewing!

Fat Quarter Dash is fast, easy and great for the very beginner quilter.

You can find Fat Quarter Dash in the Quilty Love Pattern Shop.

Fat Quarter Dash quilt pattern

Fat Quarter Dash is fat quarter friendly! It’s pretty obvious with the name..haha. The Dash part in the name comes from the shapes in the blocks and the fact that this quilt is fast and easy and is sewn up quickly.

The Fat Quarter Dash quilt pattern is written around fat quarters but half yards or even yards can be used for the larger sizes.

This quilt pattern was written with your fabric stash in mind! Mix and match fat quarters from your stash for this fast and easy quilt. Or pull the ribbon off a fat quarter bundle you have had sitting around.

Stash Buster Quilt Pattern

The stash buster quilt pattern series are all stash friendly quilts that don’t require background fabric. Without background fabric you really can start to make a dent in your fabric stash with these stash buster patterns.

My hope is that you can mix and match fabrics you already have in your stash for these quilts. I wrote a blog post all about mixing fabrics from your stash here. Scroll down the post for tips and tricks.

Easy beginner friendly quilt pattern

Fat Quarter Dash is the perfect beginner quilter quilt pattern! I’ve been wanting to expand my beginner friendly quilt patterns and this one is just that. I’m asked often for my beginner friendly patterns and while I have a few, I didn’t have a go-to obvious choice.

Fat Quarter Dash is written with beginner quilters in mind. It’s simple piecing and simple patchwork making it a good choice for a first quilt.

Beginner friendly quilts also tend to be fast and easy quilts for the more experienced quilter.

Collection CF Fat Quarter Dash

This is the original test quilt made using the Fat Quarter Dash quilt pattern. I had this Collection CF fat quarter bundle in my stash that I couldn’t wait to cut into. I love how these modern fabrics all mix together without the use of a background fabric.

Machine wavy stitch quilting

It’s been a while since I have quilted a quilt! Lately I’ve been sending most of them off to a long arm quilter. My hours are so limited with the toddler so quilting has been outsourced more than ever.

I do enjoy quilting every once in a while though and if you have been following along for more than a minute you know it’s going to be the wavy stitch if I do it myself..ha.

This stitch is so easy and so forgiving and makes everything look good. It’s simple straight lines using a walking foot and the machine makes the wave as it goes. If your machine doesn’t have the wavy stitch, maybe it has the multi stitch zig zag. I did a tutorial with that stitch here. It’s the exact same method with either stitch.

Fat Quarter Dash quilt pattern sizes

Fat Quarter Dash includes instructions for all of the quilt sizes! I have you covered for a baby size, small throw size, large throw size, twin size, queen size and a king size.

I’ve included all of the bed sized quilts in the quilt pattern.

This Collection CF Fat Quarter Dash is the large throw size.

Ikea Flannel Duvet backing

This large throw size Fat Quarter Dash is backed in a warm and cozy Ikea flannel duvet. I picked up this duvet cover a while back and wish I had grabbed five more! The black polka dots are such a great neutral. Plus, it’s flannel! And extremely inexpensive. A duvet cover can back two quilts.

Kona cotton binding

I finished off this quick and easy quilt with a blue solid kona cotton fabric. This is the color Surf.
