Scrappy Glowing quilt with scrappy low volume background

Today I’m sharing this fabric/scrap stash Glowing quilt I made last year. Glowing is one of my favorite quilts to sew up using my smaller sized fabrics in my stash. Choose one color for the outer ring, another for the inner ring and yet another for the plus sign in the middle. Then grab those low volume scraps for a scrappy and happy background.

The Glowing quilt pattern is available in the Quilty Love pattern shop.

Glowing quilt pattern

The Glowing quilt pattern came out a few years back. It’s a nice fat quarter friendly quilt. However you can also sew one up using your fabric stash or scrap stash. I really love doing this 3 color version where you pick one color for the outer ring, another for the inner ring and another for the plus sign.

When you make one using the 3 color version then you can use smaller cuts of fabrics like fat eighths or even your scrap stash.

I would call the Glowing quilt pattern an ambitious beginner quilt. There are quite a few seams but it’s all simple shapes and the blocks are nice and big at 18 inch finished.

Scrappy low volume background

I love doing a full scrappy background on quilts like this! There are two ways to approach a scrappy background. One is using all low volume prints that all have the same color base like bright white.

Another option is full on scrappy where you mix all different color low volume prints together like this quilt.

In this case I used all bright white low volumes and it reads a lot cleaner. It acts more like a solid background with some really fun interest.

Glowing includes 3 size options:

Long Arm Quilting

This scrappy Glowing quilt was long arm quilted by Modern Textiles. We chose this super fun pantograph called Fun Flowers.

Scrappy Glowing quilt backing

The backing on this Scrappy Glowing quilt is a Riley Blake widleback called Blossoms.
