Scrappy Infinite Hearts Quilt

Today I’m sharing a scrappy Infinite Hearts quilt. I have so many quilts that need to be posted so I’m focusing on the heart quilts with Valentine’s Day just around the corner.

I made this fun scrappy Blue Infinite Hearts quilt during the quilt along last year. It is made entirely from my scrap bins. I love sewing up these super scrappy quilts and using only the scrap bins.

The hearts are blue scraps and the background is all low volume scraps.

Infinite Hearts Quilt Pattern

Infinite Hearts is the third heart quilt in the Quilty Love heart quilt pattern series. This is a fun and scrappy friendly heart quilt pattern. These heart quilt patterns started a few years back with the intention of making a cute heart quilt just in time for Valentine’s Day that was also very stash friendly.

The Infinite Hearts quilt pattern has a few different options. Make a super scrappy version like this one using your scrap stash. Make a scrappy version using fat quarters and a solid background. Or make a four color version using just four different fabrics.

The pattern includes all three options.

The Infinite Hearts quilt pattern includes lots of quilt sizes:

Small Throw
Medium Throw (Shown in this blog post)
Large Throw
Twin size bed quilt

Besides being scrappy friendly, Infinite Hearts can also use the following pre-cuts:

Fat eighths
Fat quarters
1/4 yards
2.5″ x WOF strips or jelly roll strips

Jelly Roll friendly heart quilt pattern

Infinite Hearts is jelly roll friendly! You can use 2.5 inch strips for this cute heart quilt. A jelly roll quilt is usually super versatile and means you can use an assortment of pre-cuts in place of the strips.

Scrap buster heart quilt pattern

I really try to design these heart quilts around the scrap stash or fabric stash since they release in January. I find it so satisfying to make a quilt completely from scraps like this one. My favorite thing to do do is to dig through the scrap bins, press those fabrics and cut from them. I find it so relaxing.

For this scrappy Infinite Hearts quilt, I used an assortment of blues and aquas. Those are the two colors I usually have the most scraps of.

Scrappy Heart Blocks

Before I sewed this scrappy Infinite Hearts quilt up I tested a few blocks using my scrap stash. You can see the fun rainbow hearts that I made above.

This quilt would be super cute all scrappy but with a rainbow of scrappy hearts. I’m actually making a similar quilt using this years Patchwork Hearts quilt. It will be made using low volume scraps as the background like this one and then each heart will be a rainbow of color.

For this scrappy heart quilt I choose low volume prints that are all brighter white colors. In other scrappy quilts I’ve mixed in ivory and grey but for this one I stuck with only white background low volume fabrics. I like how cohesive it comes out that way.

Long Arm Quilting

This scrappy Infinite Hearts quilt was long arm quilted by Vintage Stitch. She actually finished the binding for me too! Jenae offers binding services along with her long arm quilting and let me tell you… it’s like magic getting that quilt back completely finished!

Binding and Backing fabric

The binding on this scrappy blue heart quilt is a navy blue gingham by Bonnie and Camille.

The backing is a Blossoms wide back in light grey. Blossoms is by the Tattooed quilter for Riley Blake.

Ambitious beginner/ Intermediate quilt pattern

The only thing that makes this heart block tricky is getting that perfect 1/4 inch on the bottom of the heart point. If you sign up for the self paced QAL there are videos included that might help. You can access all of the quilt along video instruction here.

Baby Patchwork Hearts Quilt – Low volume scrappy heart quilt

Today I have a cute little baby Patchwork Hearts quilt to share. It doesn’t get any cuter than a baby sized heart quilt. This baby heart quilt pattern is a fun and scrappy quilt to sew up. Sew through your stash using this quilt pattern.

The Patchwork Hearts quilt pattern is the newest heart quilt pattern in the Quilty Love pattern line up. This year the heart quilt is scrappy friendly like always.

This cute little baby heart quilt uses leftover fabrics from a Sincerely Yours fat quarter bundle by Moda Fabrics.

Sincerely Yours Fabric by Moda Fabrics

This cute little baby sized Patchwork Hearts quilt is sewn up using the Sincerely Yours fabric line by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics.

I was excited to use this cute Valentine’s inspired fabric bundle for this years heart quilt. Because this fat quarter bundle includes quite a few fabrics I was able to make a throw size and this baby size heart quilt with it. I did use an additional one yard of a lighter print for the throw size hearts.

I used leftover fabrics from the throw size for the hearts on this baby size quilt.

Scrappy baby heart quilt

I love how cute and scrappy this baby heart quilt turned out. The low volume fabrics from the Sincerely Yours fabric line were used as the scrappy patchwork background while the brighter reds and purples were used as the hearts.

I call this one an inside out heart quilt since it’s the opposite of the throw size Patchwork Hearts. I just started a throw size version of Patchwork Hearts using all low volumes from my scrap bins as the background. I love how this baby size scrappy heart quilt turned out so I’m excited to make one like it in a throw size.

Patchwork Hearts quilt pattern

Patchwork Hearts is the fourth annual heart quilt pattern. This tradition started four years ago as an excuse to use up the fabrics in my scrap bins. These heart quilts are always stash and scrap friendly.

They always release in January just in time for Valentine’s day.

In addition to being scrap friendly they are also precut friendly. The Patchwork Hearts quilt pattern can use the following precuts:

Charm Squares (5″ squares)
Layer Cake squares (10″ squares)
Fat Eighth friendly
Quarter Yard friendly
Fat Quarter friendly
Scrappy friendly

Long Arm Quilting

Usually I will quilt baby sized quilts myself but I sent this one off to Modern Textiles along with the throw size Patchwork Hearts quilt. We chose this cute bow pantograph by Modern Textiles. I think it’s called Twist Tie.

Minky Backing

I’m continuing my obsession with Minky backings by using it on this cute scrappy baby heart quilt. If ever there is a quilt to use a minky backing on, it’s a baby quilt. Minky is so soft and so cuddly. I also treat it like any other quilting cotton backing and use batting.

I recommend sticking with a quality minky like Shannon Cuddle. Not all minky quality is the same and will wear differently over time. Cheaper minky fabrics might melt in the dryer so stick with a quality minky fabric.

I always use the wide Shannon Cuddle minky fabrics so no piecing required!

This minky backing is a Shannon Cuddle in the color Woodrose.

Binding Fabric

The binding on this cute patchwork hearts quilt is from the Sincerely Yours fabric line. This print is called Petunia Waffle. The binding on the throw size quilt is Petunia Criss Cross. And the heart fabric on the throw size quilt is the Ivory Dots.

Modern Textiles quilted up both of these quilts. I just love both quilting designs.

Minky is a little thicker than a quilting cotton so you’ll want to use at least 2.5 inch strips for the binding fabric. I don’t have any issues when I use 2.5 inch but you might even consider upsizing a little more if you find 2.5 inch strips to be tight with a regular quilting cotton.

Four Color Infinite Hearts quilt

I have a four color Infinite Hearts quilt to share today! I’m excited to get this one on the blog because it’s one of my favorite Infinite Hearts quilts. Infinite Hearts is the latest in the Quilty Love Heart pattern series and it’s a fun one to sew up.

The Infinite Hearts quilt pattern has a few options plus lots of sizes. You can sew up this cute heart quilt using your scrap stash, your fat quarter stash, jelly roll strips or make a repeating block version like this one using four different fabrics. This four color Infinite Hearts quilt is the medium throw size and it uses four different kona cotton pinks.

Four Color Infinite Hearts Quilt

This heart quilt was such a fun one to design and sew up. It’s become an annual tradition to create a new heart quilt pattern each January and to host a sew along with it. These heart quilts are written with your scrap stash in mind because January is always a good time of the year to dig into those scraps.

When I was creating Infinite Hearts, this four color repeating block version came to mind so it’s also included in the quilt pattern. Instead of using your scrap stash or fat quarters, you use four different colors of yardage and create a repeating block. I’ve arranged my four colors from dark to light for an ombre effect.

This four color heart quilt would look great in Ombre fabrics! Or these Ruby Star Society Speckled fabrics.

Kona Cotton Pink Solids

I wanted this four color Infinite Hearts quilt to be really pink. So I chose some true pink colors from the Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton line up. This heart quilt uses Azeala, Camellia, Bubble Gum and Medium Pink.

Ruby Star Society Grid background

The background of this Infinite Hearts quilt is Ruby Star Society Grid in the color cloud. This fabric has been discontinued but their speckled fabric is a really good replacement.

Infinite Hearts Quilt Pattern – precut friendly!

The Infinite Hearts quilt pattern is a scrap buster quilt. It’s perfect for your pink or red scrap stash. Or pull pink and red fat quarters from your stash. You can also use jelly roll strips for this cute heart quilt.

Cutting instructions are included for scraps, jelly roll strips, fat quarters, fat eighths, half yards or quarter yards. So this heart quilt is pre-cut friendly!

Long Arm Quilting

This four color Infinite Hearts quilt was quilted by Knot and Thread. This adorable clamshell pantograph is so perfect for this quilt. I’m not sure what the exact name of this quilting design is but it looks like a clamshell of some sort.

I pieced this heart quilt on my Janome MC6700p.

Riley Blake Blossoms Wide Back fabric

This four color Infinite Hearts throw size quilt is backed in a Riley Blake Blossoms wide back in the color Gray. This wide back fabric is a fun speckle print that comes in a few different colors. It’s a wide back so no piecing required for that backing fabric. You know I love a good wide back fabric.

Baby Scrappy Hearts Quilt

Today I’m sharing this adorable little Baby Scrappy Hearts quilt. I made this heart quilt last year but somehow it never made it up on the blog.

Scrappy Hearts is last years heart quilt pattern. The name of the quilt says it all, it’s scrappy! Scrappy friendly, stash friendly, fat quarter friendly.

This baby sized Scrappy Hearts quilt is made up using my friend Anna’s Driftless fabric line for Robert Kaufman.

I wanted to use something other than pinks and reds for this little heart baby quilt so I used the Driftless fabric line for Robert Kaufman. This line has such pretty blues with a sprinkling of corals.

Easy heart quilt pattern

Scrappy Hearts is a pretty quick and easy heart quilt pattern. It uses simple squares and half square triangles.

My quilt patterns usually have you making your half square triangles a little big so you can trim to size. I find that method so much more precise. I’ve always been terrible at making half square triangles perfectly to size. Plus I find trimming half square triangles satisfying and even a little therapeutic 🙂

Scrappy friendly heart quilt pattern

Because Scrappy Hearts is made up using squares, it is the perfect scrappy quilt pattern! While I didn’t use scraps for this version, you can swap out all of those squares for squares cut from your scrap stash.

The original Scrappy Hearts quilt is made from my pink scraps and pink fabric stash.

Essex Linen flax background

The background of this baby Scrappy Hearts quilt is Essex Linen in the color flax. The Driftless fabric line is all linen from the Robert Kaufman lines. So adding in a linen background kept the texture all the same.

I love quilting with linen and really love the extra texture it adds. I’ve pretty much only used Robert Kaufman Essex Linens in my quilts so I don’t have much experience sewing with other options.

Quilting with Essex Linen

Linen will shrink quite a bit more than a regular quilting cotton. I always use a smaller stitch length like 1.8 when quilting with linen. Pre-washing is never a bad idea but I will admit that I never pre-wash myself.

You can expect to loose a few inches on each side of your linen quilt when you wash it for the first time. I remember how surprised I was the first time I washed a linen quilt. It shrunk a lot!

What I really love about linen quilts is how warm they are! That surprised me too. We reach for the linen quilts way more than the cotton ones over here because they are warmer. Plus they get softer with each wash.

Wavy Stitch machine quilting

Is anyone surprised that I quilted wavy stitches on this baby Scrappy Hearts quilt…lol. If I quilt a quilt myself, 9.5 times out of 10 it will be this wavy stitch quilting.

It’s the same technique as the zig zag stitch in this tutorial but uses a wavy stitch instead of a multi stitch zig zag stitch.

The quilted lines are spaced 3/4 inch apart.

I keep using that wavy stitch because look at the beautiful texture it creates! The texture holds up through washes much better than straight line quilting so it’s become my go-to.
